Running away from HOME!!!!

Are you tired of being ridiculed by the people who are suppose to love you the most???

Does your family stress you out????

Do you think you will feel better if you didn't live under the same roof as your parents???

Here are some helpful hints for young adults who are thinking about running away from home...but wait there are consequences so be prepared to take those risks!!!!!

Have you ever wanted to run away? There are many reasons young people want to run away from home. If you're really set on doing this, here's how to do it, but always remember the possible consequences.

Steps

  1. 1
Sit down and think. Do you really want to run away? Think of the consequences. Your parents will be worried sick, and you don't know what might happen to you in the cold dark world that is outside your door. Don't make an unwise decision in a hurry. You might regret it later. If you really feel that you are justified in taking the following steps, only then do so.

Plan ahead. Think of what you will do if any part of your plan goes wrong, and make up excuses for everything:
If you have someone helping you run away, and have a safe place to stay with someone you can trust, you're pretty much set. However, if that's not a possibility, where will you take shelter?
What will you do if you get sick?
    What if you are caught?
    What will you eat?
  3. 3
Remember that if you do run away, you're putting yourself in potential danger - the world is a scary place.
If you are a minor, running away from home may be considered a crime depending on where you live, but it is usually a status offense punished with probation, or not punished at all.
  4. 4
Pack up a bag with some food, money, extra changes of clothing, a jacket or coat in case it gets cold, a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and anything else you will need. Travel light; bring only the bare essentials.
  5. 5
Try to bring some of your allowance, but don't take enough to get you noticed. Maybe $10 for a bus or other transportation, and $20 just in case.
  6. 6
Wait until you have the right opportunity to make a run for it. Make sure you have plenty of time to get away before anyone notices you're gone. Try making your move as soon as you get to school in the morning, or as soon as everyone in your home leaves and you know they won't be coming back for a long time.
  7. 7
Get away from your house quickly. The last thing you want is for anyone in the neighborhood to notice you leaving.
  8. 8
Find a method of transportation. You will likely want to have a quick and easy way of getting around. The city bus is your best bet, or a long-distance traveling bus if you're leaving the town/city.
  9. 9
Keep in mind, if you do decide to hitchhike, there are drivers that will do some bad things to you. However, on the flip-side, there are also really nice people out there who would gladly take you with them. They will probably want to ask you where you are going, or what you are doing, so have a nice little lie handy. Do not tell them that you ran away from home, and say as little to them as possible.
  10. 10
Find shelter. If you don't have a place to stay with someone, you'll have to try and find shelter elsewhere. Try finding a reasonably safe spot under a bridge, in an alcove, in an abandoned building somewhere, or perhaps in a public building that stays open 24/7.
  11. 11
Maintain yourself. This part is by far the hardest, particularly with maintaining yourself financially - mainly for food. Unless you have a well-made fake ID, getting a job is going to prove a challenge.

Tips

  • Stay somewhere where you know your parents and the authorities aren't likely to find you, such as with a trustworthy acquaintance or a friend that you're family doesn't know about.

  • On the other hand, do not stay in a place where your parents or the police will know to look for you. Your boyfriend/girlfriend's, family members' and close friends' houses are the first places they are going to check.
    • Remember that, regardless of how successful you are in running away, you will likely end up returning home eventually.
  • This should be fairly obvious, but avoid places where you could be seen by someone that knows who you are and could in turn report you to the police. This is why you must try to get a safe distance from home.
  • You can use public washrooms in malls and shops, and you can tend to your hygienic needs in public pool or gym changing rooms.
  • You may want to try rotating homes between friends. Start off somewhere where no one will look for you, then after a bit, or when another person notifies you, leave that place and stay with a different person. However, you will need floor plans of each house you stay at to determine the best route out in case of emergency. You also have to be sure that you do NOT leave anything behind that could clue in authorities.
  • Do not try to recall your memories of back home, once gone think about future with definitiveness.
  • You could just pack one set of clothes and just stay away for one night. Also, if you carry your things in a backpack, then you might look like an average kid going to school to adults.

Warnings

  • Do not bring your cell phone (unless you can change the number or the SIM card), debit or credit cards with you, as these can be used to trace your location. If you need to make call to someone, borrow a phone or use a payphone. If you need to purchase something, pay with cash.
  • Be careful if you hideout at someone's place, because your hosts can be charged with kidnapping.
  • Be sure you want to do this, because chances are you won't last long on your own. But that's okay to admit. Stay with your family as long as you can.
  • If you are being abused, don't just take it. Talk to someone you trust and get some help.
  • Exercise common sense. By running away, you can face the risk of getting caught, mugged, raped or murdered. It is something you will regret for the rest of your life.
  • Leaving behind family that loves you is the hardest part, so be sure that you are (if you insist on running away) in fact doing so for the right reason and not just because you want "attention" or "freedom".
